The Speedy is the most-produced Louis Vuitton bag ever made — which means it’s also the most-faked and the most-misunderstood on the resale market. Prices range from under $200 for a worn, dateless piece to over $1,500 for a pristine vintage example with accessories. Here’s how to place yours.

Values reflect the secondhand market as of 2026. Limited editions (Cherry Blossom, Graffiti, Murakami Multicolore) sell significantly higher and should be researched individually.
What drives Speedy value up or down
- Vachetta leather condition. The natural cowhide handles and trim start cream-colored and darken to a honey-brown patina with age. Light, even honey patina is desirable. Cracked, peeling, or severely darkened (almost black) vachetta knocks $100–300 off value.
- Canvas condition. The LV monogram canvas is very durable but can peel at the seams or develop corner cracks. Even minor peeling is a significant value hit.
- Date code present and readable. A legible date code adds buyer confidence. Bags where the code is too faded to read sell at a discount.
- Original accessories. Lock, keys, dust bag, and box together can add $100–200 to the sale price.
- Smell. Smoke or musty odor is very hard to remove from canvas and is the number-one reason Speedys sell below market.
- Size. The 25 and 30 are the most in-demand. The 40 is the least desirable.
How to authenticate a Speedy
- Date code. Find it on a leather tab inside, near the zipper or handles. Read it with the LV date code guide. The code should be heat-stamped, not printed.
- Canvas pattern alignment. On a genuine Speedy, the LV monogram is centered on the front panel and aligns at the seams. Fakes often show cut-off or misaligned monograms, particularly on the zipper pocket.
- Heat stamp. The “LOUIS VUITTON · PARIS · made in [country]” stamp on the interior tab should be clean, centered, and without bleeding. Fake heat stamps are often blurry or off-center.
- Zipper. Genuine Speedys use Éclair or S-Lock brand zippers — look for the brand name embossed on the zipper pull. YKK zippers are a fake signal.
- Stitching. Golden-yellow, even, and tight — typically 5 stitches per centimeter. Loose, uneven, or white stitching is wrong.
Vintage vs. current production
The Speedy has been in continuous production since 1930. A 1980s or 1990s Speedy is not necessarily more valuable than a 2010s one — condition matters far more than age on this particular style. The exception is discontinued limited editions, which command strong premiums regardless of age.
