The Dooney & Bourke IT bag (also called the “Signature” bag) launched in the early 2000s as the brand’s answer to the logomania era — a coated canvas covered in the interlocking “D&B” monogram with the duck logo woven in. It was enormously popular from roughly 2003–2010 and is now entering vintage collector territory, though values remain modest compared to AWL.

IT Bag vs. AWL: what collectors prefer
The vintage D&B collector market strongly favors AWL over the signature canvas. AWL bags are considered the “real” vintage D&B; the signature canvas era is viewed more as a brand extension than a continuation of the original craft. IT bags sell reliably but rarely inspire the premium pricing that clean AWL pieces achieve. If you’re buying to collect rather than use, AWL is the stronger choice.
Authentication
- Canvas quality: Genuine D&B signature canvas is thick, coated, and stiff. Thin or crinkly canvas is a fake signal.
- Duck in the pattern: Look for the small duck woven into the signature monogram — it should be crisp and recognizable, not blurry.
- Leather trim: Handles and trim should be genuine leather, not vinyl. The leather darkens with age; vinyl stays uniform and often peels.
- Interior tag: Should still carry D&B branding with serial number, though the red/white/blue AWL-style tag is less common on this era.
